Job Description

Newmont Tanami is on Aboriginal freehold land 540km northwest of Alice Springs. It is a long-life, low-cost, world-class asset in a core Newmont region. The Tanami Expansion 2 project, aims to extend the mine life beyond 2040, investing in a hoisting shaft which will increase the production of the underground mine from 2.6 Mtpa to 3.2 Mtpa. Both the successful exploration within the underground operation and implementation of the first Tanami Expansion has laid the foundation to further develop the operation to remain a major contributor to the Newmont portfolio. A fully equipped camp is located onsite offering leisure facilities for those flying in from Perth, Brisbane, Alice Springs or Darwin.

This is a site-based role at Tanami Operations in the Northern Territory, working in a challenging remote environment. You will interface daily with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, HSE, and project stakeholders.

The role involves a FIFO schedule with a 8/6 roster.  Approved departure locations for the point of hire are Darwin, Alice Springs, Perth, and Brisbane.

As a Mechanical Supervisor, you’ll take the lead in guiding a hardworking crew and keeping our operation running smoothly every day. This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’re out in the field with your team solving problems, making decisions, and setting the standard for safe, reliable, high‑quality work. Key Responsibilities

  • Leading safe, efficient mechanical operation by keeping equipment running smoothly and identify opportunities to improve performance.
  • Coordinating and executing maintenance, services, and repairs with a strong safety-first mindset and clear direction for the team.
  • Performing regular work inspections to ensure a high quality level of work is being completed & safety critical controls are verified.
  • Supporting and developing your team by setting expectations, allocating work, recognising great performance, and building a positive, productive culture.
  • Championing continuous improvement by encouraging ideas, addressing issues early, and driving disciplined work management across the team.

Capabilities Required

  • Trade qualifications or engineering background & a valid driver’s licence.
  • Demonstrated experience with supervising a fixed plant maintenance team which incorporates shaft infrastructure, winder systems, koepe & double drum winders, crushers & conveyors.
  • Strong understanding of safety, risk management, and operational procedures, with the ability to apply sound judgement and improve work methods through hands-on problem solving.
  • Advanced knowledge in work management systems (SAP), planning and scheduling, data recording and reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with direct reports and leaders, adapt behaviours to support team outcomes, manage conflict resolution & team development skills.
