ABOUT GEMCO

Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is an open-cut mine that is accountable for over 15% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

The onsite accommodation includes meal services and access to excellent facilities, including a gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, a sports oval and a range of scenic walking tracks.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role is a Permanent position on a 4:3 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns. Consideration will be given to Brisbane-based candidates, who are encouraged to apply. Option to be residential and live on Groote Eylandt.

As the Superintendent Water Operations, you will be responsible for leading end-to-end execution of mine water management to support production continuity through safe, compliant and efficient movement, storage, treatment and discharge across short to medium-term planning horizons.

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to: 

• Drive day-to-day pit dewatering, drainage and discharge outcomes against targets
• Lead wet season preparedness, response and recovery across the operation
• Ensure integrity of pumps, pipelines, dams and telemetry networks
• Deliver water balance reporting, escalate risks and support site decisions

ABOUT YOU

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following: 

• Demonstrated experience within operational mining settings
• Strong leadership with ability to build accountable, high-performing teams
• Clear stakeholder engagement across technical and operational groups
• Sound judgement under pressure with competing priorities and risks
• Continuous improvement mindset with focus on safety and reliability

Qualifications for this position are: 

• Tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology, Geology, Earth or Environmental Science, or other relevant disciplines
• Current C Class Drivers Licence
