Work Location
This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK. The work schedule for this role is 7x7.
For those not living locally, BHP provides relocation assistance to the local Jansen area. Alternatively, you can enjoy the convenience and comfort of our onsite camp accommodation at Discovery Lodge during your shifts.
BHP offers domestic relocation assistance to support the successful incumbent in transitioning, if required. Benefits offered as part of the relocation program include (but are not limited to) new home purchase assistance, temporary accommodations, home finding trip and a resettlement allowance.
The Challenge Ahead
The Mine Technician will support Mine Planning and Technical scope specific to the underground potash development. Typical duties will include surveying, ventilation monitoring and control, ground control data collection and field work, geological data collection and field work and the installation and maintenance of ground control monitoring instrumentation. They will work closely with the Lead Mine Technician and Senior Mining Engineer to ensure all underground technical duties are performed building an effective relationship with the contractors to work the plan.
In this role, you will:
- Support underground potash development in relation to all planning and technical duties associated with the day-to-day works commencing with the shafts and working into the mine inclusive of mine surveying, ventilation, ground control and the associated geological and ground support assessments.
- Ensure full compliance in the day-to-day work underground with the Mining Regulations.
- Ensure compliance with the Authority to Mine (ATM) and monitor for any non-conformance.
- Work for the entire Planning & Technical Teams ensuring they are the eyes and the ears for day-to-day activities underground.
- Have an in-depth understanding of surveying, ventilation, ground control and geological aspects of underground mining and supports the mining contractor in these aspects.
- Have thorough knowledge of the mine development scope in terms of ground support and ground monitoring and instigate and monitor the ground monitoring program.
- Support and cover for the Lead Mine Technician as required, ensuring sights are set for all development drives as well as-built information once mine excavations have been completed.
- Support the Principal Mine Ventilation in maintaining ventilation devices and circuits inclusive of monitoring and data collection.
- Ensure adherence to and exhibit the Jansen core values.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
- Technical Diploma (or other 2-year diploma) or bachelor’s degree in related discipline.
- Entry-Level candidates will be considered.
- Basic knowledge of the mining industry and related infrastructure and equipment.
- High attention to detail, motivation, and commitment to quality outcomes.
- Proven demonstrated ability to learn and quickly comprehend new concepts and technologies.
