The Specialist Indigenous Engagement plays an important role in supporting Indigenous engagement activities across Queensland. This position contributes to the day to day delivery of Indigenous engagement priorities, strengthens relationships with Traditional Owner groups and communities, and supports the delivery of BHP’s public commitments to Indigenous Peoples and broader Social Value outcomes.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Build and maintain trusted and respectful partnerships with Queensland Traditional Owner groups, Aboriginal communities, Indigenous organisations, and partners.
  • Support the governance, reporting and implementation of BHP’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) within BMA, including:
    • Assisting with the roll-out of BHPs Cultural Respect Framework across BMA enabling the development and delivery of Traditional Owner Cultural Awareness training and Cultural Immersion programs.
    • Support the design, delivery and monitoring of Indigenous Social Investment Partnerships, Donations or Sponsorships in Queensland.
    • Enabling the delivery of NAIDOC and National Reconciliation Week activities in Queensland.
  • Provide strategic advice, coaching and support to BMA functions and assets on matters in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
  • Enable to development and delivery of Social Value outcomes across BMA and its Communities.
  • Provide administrative support for BMA Native Title agreement negotiations, reviews and related processes as required.
  • Coordinate Indigenous Engagement reporting, administration, and budget management, including payment processing and compliance.

About You

  • Demonstrated experience in community engagement and partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
  • Proven ability to provide strategic advice, coaching, and practical support to BMA functions and assets on matters relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
  • Proven capability with the design and delivery of Social Investment or community-based projects and partnerships.
  • Strong cultural competence with a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and contemporary issues.
  • Experience managing complex projects, solving problems and delivering outcomes within time critical environment.
  • Experience with BHP Operating System, policies, standard tools and processes is preferred.
  • Tertiary qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is desirable.
