Senior Specialist - Underground Mine Planning

AngloGold Ashanti is seeking an experienced Senior Specialist Underground Mine Planning to provide high-level mine planning support across its Africa Business Unit. This role is responsible for developing mine planning strategies that maximise value, support life-of-mine planning, contribute to reserve processes, and provide technical support to operations in line with company standards and regulatory requirements.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Develop and support strategic underground mine planning options that improve value and operational performance
• Assist sites with mine designs, schedules, annual budgets, and planning inputs
• Provide technical support for mining studies, projects, and operational planning activities
• Analyse operational performance against budget and forecast in terms of production and cost
• Support reserve reporting, technical assurance, and planning standardisation across sites
• Identify and help implement improvement opportunities that support value creation
• Contribute to performance reporting, planning benchmarks, and underground mining standards
• Support mine engineering and planning teams through guidance, collaboration, and capability building
• Assist with annual rate reviews and tender evaluation support where required

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Degree in a relevant mining-related discipline
• Postgraduate qualification advantageous

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

• At least 8 years’ relevant underground mining experience
• Strong underground mine planning software capability, preferably Deswik
• Experience in budget planning schedules and reserve processes
• Exposure to different underground mining methods
• Practical understanding of the mining value chain, including mining, geotechnical, metallurgy, and projects
• Strong analytical, commercial, financial, risk management, and stakeholder engagement skills
• Willingness to undertake extensive business travel
