Senior Protection Engineer | Perth | 12-Month Contract
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Protection Engineer to join a high-performing Energy Projects team on a 12-month contract based in Perth. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to the development of a large-scale 220kV transmission and renewable energy network.
Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will play a key role in the design, configuration, testing and commissioning of high-voltage protection systems for substations, renewable generation facilities and battery energy storage projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, review and develop electrical protection systems for HV infrastructure projects.
- Perform protection studies, settings calculations, coordination and relay selection.
- Develop and configure protection relay settings and configuration files.
- Review and approve technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation.
- Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and protection relay bench testing.
- Support commissioning activities and provide technical troubleshooting expertise.
- Collaborate with project, operations and engineering teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Develop scopes of work for protection studies, grading reports and specialist engineering services.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Standards and industry best practice.
- Support quality assurance processes throughout project execution.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in electrical protection systems within the power utility, transmission, generation or heavy industrial sectors.
- Strong experience with protection design, settings development and commissioning.
- Experience with Siemens SIPROTEC 5 and/or SEL protection relays.
- Demonstrated ability to produce and verify IED protection and control settings.
- Strong understanding of HV substations, transmission networks and protection philosophies.
- Excellent technical report writing and documentation skills.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
