Network Engineer / Infrastructure Specialist Join MacKellar – Building Australia’s Future Through Technology and Infrastructure
At MacKellar, we know that strong, reliable networks are critical to keeping our operations running across some of Australia’s most remote and challenging environments. We’re looking for an experienced Network Engineer to take ownership of our enterprise network infrastructure and help drive stability, security, and performance across the business.

This is a hands-on, technically diverse role where you’ll be trusted as the network design authority - supporting, improving, and future-proofing connectivity across multi-site operations, cloud environments, and remote locations.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for designing, deploying, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure including routing, switching, firewalls, SD-WAN, and VPN technologies. You’ll troubleshoot complex Layer 2 and Layer 3 issues across geographically dispersed sites, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and effectively.

You’ll monitor network performance and proactively identify and prevent issues before they impact operations. Acting as the go-to expert, you’ll review and govern network changes to ensure alignment with standards, stability, and best practice.

You’ll also plan and deliver network improvements across wired, wireless, and cloud environments, including Microsoft 365, Azure (including Azure Firewall), and Starlink connectivity.

Your role will include lifecycle management, upgrades, optimisation, and decommissioning activities.

Working closely with internal stakeholders and vendors, you’ll provide expert technical guidance, manage incidents through to resolution, and support the evaluation and implementation of new solutions.

You’ll also contribute to risk management, security uplift, and network resilience across the organisation.

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring proven experience in infrastructure or network engineering roles within complex enterprise environments.

You’ll have strong hands-on expertise across firewalls (such as Palo Alto or equivalent), SD-WAN, VPNs, and switching technologies.

You’ll be confident troubleshooting complex technical issues and taking ownership from diagnosis through to resolution. Experience supporting remote or geographically dispersed operations will be highly regarded.

Just as importantly, you’ll have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with both technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
