Work Location: Eliwana. Fortescue’s Eliwana mine is located on the traditional lands of the Puutu Kunti Kurrama & Pinikura (PKKP) People.
Roster: 4 Days On / 3 Days Off - FIFO ex Perth
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Senior Mining Engineer to join the Eliwana Operations Planning team. Reporting to the Superintendent Medium-Term Planning, this role is responsible for leading the development and coordination of 3 months & 2 Year mine plans and associated planning deliverables to support safe, efficient, and value-driven operational outcomes.
The role will work closely with a range of key stakeholders to ensure alignment between strategic objectives and executable mine plans. This position plays a critical role in optimising mine development strategies, balancing production requirements, operational constraints, infrastructure development, and business priorities to deliver achievable and commercially optimised outcomes.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical leadership, stakeholder engagement capability, and the ability to lead planning initiatives within a dynamic operational environment
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and maintenance of integrated 3 months & 2 year mine plans aligned with operational, production, and business objectives
- Coordinate medium-term mine planning activities including pit progression, waste scheduling, haulage strategies, fleet utilisation, and infrastructure development requirements
- Develop and communicate production forecasts, planning assumptions, and associated reporting to support operational decision-making and business planning processes
- Provide technical leadership and guidance relating to mine sequencing, product quality, waste strategies, and operational planning activities
- Monitor plan performance against budget and forecast targets, identifying risks, constraints, and improvement opportunities
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives relating to mine planning methodologies, scheduling processes, and operational efficiencies
- Mentor and support planning engineers within the team while contributing to a collaborative and highperforming culture
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or equivalent.
- Significant experience in open pit mining operations with demonstrated exposure to medium-term planning and mine scheduling
- Proven capability in developing and maintaining integrated mine plans across medium and longer-term planning horizons
- Sound understanding of operational mining requirements, mine development sequencing, and production planning principles.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across multiple disciplines and leadership levels.
- Demonstrated ability to lead planning initiatives, manage competing priorities, and deliver outcomes within a dynamic operational environment.
