Senior Laboratory Chemist - Mining & Minerals

About the Role

As our Senior Chemist at Northparkes, you will play a critical technical and leadership role within our Ore Processing Technical team. Reporting to the Ore Processing Technical Superintendent, you will lead an experienced onsite Laboratory team and ensure high quality analytical services that support Metallurgy, Mine Technical, Operations and Commercial functions across a world class gold and copper operation.

This is a hands on, outcome focused role where you’ll drive laboratory excellence, set performance standards, uplift capability, and champion continuous improvement across productivity, quality and safety. You will oversee laboratory systems, workflows, QAQC, equipment reliability, data integrity, and turnaround performance - ensuring our analytical services meet and exceed operational requirements.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leadership of the Laboratory team; 8 direct reports, ensuring that individual accountabilities and performance are monitored and achieved
• Promoting a positive team culture and team alignment to Evolution’s values
• Management of lab routine and project work, ensuring client turn-around times are met and correct data is reported
• Ensure laboratory staff are trained and competent, undertaking tasks in accordance with business policy, procedures, QAQC processes, and practices
• Ensure safety standards are upheld, and safety issues are raised/escalated where appropriate
• Accountable for the Laboratory area ownership and its maintenance

About You

You are an experienced Chemist and proven people leader who brings strong technical capability, sound judgement and a commitment to high quality laboratory practices. You have a background in commercial or mineral processing laboratories and are confident overseeing analytical accuracy, QAQC processes and operational lab performance.

You’re known for your clear communication, collaborative approach and ability to build a positive team culture while maintaining high standards of accountability. You are passionate about safety, continuous improvement, and developing others - and you’re ready to take the next step in shaping laboratory performance at a major Australian gold and copper operation.

What We’re Looking For:

• A degree in Chemistry (or equivalent)
• Solid laboratory experience, ideally 5+ years in commercial or processing environments
• Proven people leadership and team‑building capability
• Understanding of QAQC and good laboratory practices (GLP)
• Experience with LIMS and standard digital tools (MS Office)
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively
• A proactive, values‑driven approach and commitment to safety
