Senior Hydrogeologist

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Hydrogeologist to support our Sino Iron operation, located at Cape Preston. This permanent role operates on an 8/6 roster, FIFO from Perth.

Reporting to the Superintendent Geotech & Hydrogeology, this role focuses on developing and implementing advanced groundwater models to support dewatering, geotechnical, and mining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop groundwater and pore pressure models including calibration, sensitivity, and uncertainty analysis to support mining and geotechnical engineering.
• Assist the approvals, licensing, and closure teams by providing accurate groundwater models.
• Design and implement pit dewatering strategies, surplus water management, and surface flooding models.
• Work collaboratively with hydrogeologists and geotechnical engineers from concept through to final model development.
• Implement groundwater and surface water management plans to meet internal and regulatory requirements.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to field staff and contractors.
• Manage groundwater and surface water data collection, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
• Lead field programs for groundwater investigations, including groundwater supply, dewatering, depressurisation, and quality assessments.

About you

To be successful in this role, you'll have:

• Bachelor of Hydrogeology
• Bachelor of Geology
• Bachelor of Geological Engineering
• Bachelor of Geoscience
• Proven technical capabilities in the areas of groundwater and surface water management with demonstrated experience working in open pit operation and groundwater model experience.
• Hands-on experience with groundwater and pit pore pressure modelling software, such as FeFlow, MINEDW, HEC-RAS, TOFLOW, ArcGIS, Surfer, Leapfrog, Aquifer Test Analysis Software, Vulcan, SQL databases, and PowerBI.
• Strong analytical and numerical skills, with experience preparing technical reports and presentations.
• A current manual driver’s licence is essential.
