About the Role
As the Senior Health & Safety Advisor, you will work closely with project leaders, contractors and operational teams to support the safe delivery of major projects.
You will provide practical health and safety advice, coach and mentor leaders and contractors, support incident investigations and risk management activities, and help ensure safety requirements are effectively implemented across the project.
A key part of the role will be building strong relationships across all levels of the operation and maintaining a visible presence in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide health and safety advice, coaching and support to project leaders, team members and contractors
- Coach and mentor personnel in safety compliance, assurance activities and proactive risk management
- Support contractor management activities across the project
- Provide assistance and guidance with incident investigations
- Review JHAs, high-risk certificates and permits across work areas
- Facilitate and review risk assessments including TBRAs and other project risk activities
- Support contractor incident investigations and ICAM processes
- Conduct contractor audits as required
- Provide field-based safety coaching and engagement
- Support leaders with incident, hazard and action management
- Develop and facilitate toolbox sessions as required
- Support Health and Safety Representatives with coaching, training and deliverables
- Coordinate and support Critical Control Monitoring activities
- Prepare and consolidate health and safety reports and KPI information
- Support project and improvement initiatives
- Coordinate risk profile reviews and planned contractor risk assessments
- Support emergency reviews and exercise planning
- Work closely with project delivery, operational health and safety teams and contractor management teams
About You
- Minimum 5 years' experience within construction, processing, oil & gas or mining operations
- Previous contractor management experience
- Strong risk management experience
- Knowledge of WHS and Mine Safety legislation
- Knowledge of safety management systems aligned with AS4801 and ISO 45001
- Strong computer skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Visio
- Ability to influence safety behaviours across all levels of an organisation
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make practical, risk-based decisions in high-pressure environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively prioritise and manage competing workloads
- Ability to lead, influence, mentor and coach others in health and safety compliance
Qualifications & Requirements - Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety or equivalent
- Current C Class Western Australian Driver's Licence or equivalent
- ICAM or equivalent incident investigation training
- Lead Investigator - ICAM
- Internal Auditor qualification in WHS Management Systems
- Cert IV TAA/TAE desirable
- Cert IV Leadership and Management or similar desirable
