Our client operates a major bauxite mining operation in the Northern Territory, producing and exporting high-quality ore while supporting local communities and sustainable resource development.

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced Cost Controller to join a major project delivery team supporting a large-scale closure and remediation programme. Based in Brisbane, you will provide leadership across cost control, forecasting, reporting, and project controls, ensuring project outcomes are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with budget expectations.

Leading a team of cost professionals, you will work closely with project managers, contractors, and key stakeholders to provide accurate cost visibility, support decision-making, and drive continuous improvement across project controls processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of cost controllers
  • Manage project cost forecasting, commitments, and expenditure reporting
  • Prepare and review project cost reports and trend analyses
  • Facilitate project change management processes
  • Develop cost forecasts and scenario-based estimates
  • Support proposal, bid, and claim evaluations
  • Monitor project performance and provide cost insights and recommendations
  • Build effective relationships with project stakeholders and delivery partners
  • Support contractor alignment on cost and schedule performance
  • Drive continuous improvement across project controls processes

Skills and Experience Required

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in cost control on major projects
  • Strong knowledge of project controls and project management principles
  • Experience managing large construction or capital project budgets
  • Previous leadership experience managing or mentoring cost control teams
  • Experience with project cost management systems and reporting tools
  • Strong forecasting, estimation, and trend analysis capability
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
  • Ability to influence project teams and support strategic decision-making
  • Experience with major projects and EPC/EPCM contractors highly regarded
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
