The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial Manager to play a pivotal leadership role within our Utilities business. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will lead the commercial function across major projects and tenders, providing strategic expertise in contracts, risk, governance, legal matters, and commercial performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead commercial strategy and governance across major tenders, contracts and project portfolios.
- Provide expert commercial, contractual, legal and risk management advice to project and business leadership teams.
- Drive bid development activities including tender reviews, opportunity and risk assessments, commercial submissions and governance approvals.
- Lead contract negotiations and manage key client, subcontractor and joint venture commercial relationships.
- Establish and maintain robust commercial controls, reporting processes, risk registers and contract management systems.
- Oversee contract performance, including variations, claims, delays, dispute resolution and margin improvement initiatives.
- Monitor project risk profiles and ensure compliance with commercial, contractual and governance requirements.
- Support financial management activities including forecasting, reporting, accruals, commitments and project closeout.
- Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing commercial team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
About You
You are a commercially astute leader with extensive experience managing complex contracts and delivering successful outcomes on large-scale infrastructure, construction, engineering or utilities projects circa $500m+
You will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commerce, Law, Engineering or a related discipline.
- More than 10 years' commercial management experience within infrastructure, utilities, construction, engineering or resources environments.
- Strong expertise in contract negotiation, commercial strategy, risk management and claims resolution.
- Proven experience leading and developing commercial teams.
- Outstanding stakeholder engagement, relationship-building and influencing skills.
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with the ability to balance commercial outcomes with operational objectives.
