Your new role

A leading utilities organisation is seeking an experienced Digital Utility Business Analyst to support the delivery of large‑scale customer and operational digital transformation initiatives. This role will work closely with digital metering, technology, and process transformation teams, as well as a wide range of internal stakeholders, to enable the successful deployment of advanced digital and smart utility solutions at scale.

The position requires a strategic and analytical mindset, with the ability to assess industry trends, regulatory requirements, customer behaviours, and business challenges through a multi‑layered lens. The Digital Utility Business Analyst will take end‑to‑end accountability for business analysis activities—from initiative conception through to implementation—ensuring that delivered solutions create tangible value for both the organisation and its customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake research and analysis to inform the design of future digital processes, operating models, and solution development.
  • Engage and consult with cross‑functional teams and senior stakeholders to gather insights, validate assumptions, and socialise findings.
  • Conduct cost‑benefit analysis, ROI assessments, and risk assessments to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Prepare and present concise, evidence‑based analysis reports and recommendations to senior leaders and key decision makers.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of project scope, business cases, and investment proposals.
  • Facilitate workshops and structured discovery sessions to identify, document, and communicate business needs and functional requirements.
  • Work closely with technology teams to translate business requirements into clear technical requirements and solution designs.

What you'll need to succeed

Experience & Domain Knowledge

  • Proven experience in business analysis, including requirements elicitation, documentation, and validation.
  • Experience within the utilities sector, with preference given to water or similarly regulated infrastructure environments.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, compliance obligations, and governance considerations.
  • Experience contributing to or delivering complex business and digital transformation programs.
  • Knowledge of advanced metering infrastructure and smart utility technologies is highly desirable.
  • 5–10 years’ experience in a Business Analyst or Business Process Analyst role.

  • Demonstrated capability in facilitating workshops, process mapping, procedural documentation, and post‑implementation reviews.
  • Ability to manage a broad and diverse stakeholder group at multiple organisational levels.
  • High level of confidence in communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence outcomes.
  • Strong prioritisation skills with the ability to deliver under tight timelines.
  • Comfortable operating within complex, highly collaborative environments.
  • Ability to establish trust and rapport quickly across all levels of an organisation.
  • Strong interest in strategy, innovation, and emerging digital technologies.
