About Lihir

Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose

The role of Planner/Schedule is responsible for creating and managing project plans and the Sustaining Capital portfolio in collaboration with project teams and stakeholders. They will ensure that progress is accurately tracked and recorded against baseline schedules. They will also provide regular updates to Project Managers, allowing them to address any deviations from the plan proactively.

Essential Duties
  • Support the effective management of the sustaining capital portfolio through systematic analysis of individual projects and portfolio projects schedules.
  • Coordinate across the portfolio project schedules to identify dependencies and interfaces. Goal is to work towards an integrated portfolio schedule.
  • Alignment of projects to Lihir LOPP (5 years plan) and other respective Lihir site schedules, particularly consideration of shutdown schedules. MEC calendar, create resource planning.
  • Provide milestone and outcome tracking and alignment to overall portfolio and program objectives.
  • Implement planning and sequencing and keeping the plan up to date capturing all portfolio updates
  • Collaborate with Project Advisors, stakeholders and Engineering Service Providers to create and maintain opportunity and project schedules
  • Identify deviations to schedules, potential blockers and proactively communicate updates.
  • Implement planning and reporting processes including preparing regular project schedule reports with accurate and up-to-date information on project status, including key milestones, risks, and mitigation plans
  • Perform critical path analysis, schedule and resource risk assessment, and providing solutions and recommendations to support successful project delivery
  • Assist with the creation, review and submission of project approval schedules.
  • Regularly assess project compliance with Newmont standards for sustained accountability.
Training & Experience
  • Required years of similar experience: 6 to 10. Broad mining relevant work experience essential and across all the mining lifecycle
  • Prior experience leading a team in a diverse cultural environment in a mining context is desirable
  • Proven track record for the delivery of project objectives and established targets is essential
  • Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country is desirable
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training. Project and portfolio management
  • Experience in Advance Primavera P6 version 7, Advance Microsoft user (project, excel and power point), Intermediate Database applications General Capacity to learn new software (Planisware).
  • SAP knowledge desirable
