Job Description

We are currently seeking expressions of Interest for the role of Signalling and Communications Projects Supervisor, to join the Renewals Execution Team on an ongoing assignment.

The Signalling and Communications Project Supervisor role is responsible for:

  • On site management of Contractors. promoting and ensuring the appropriate standards of Health, Safety and Environmental management are adhered to.
  • Coordination and planning of signalling activities related to turnout and crossover renewals.
  • Coordination and planning of signalling activities related to level Crossing renewals.
  • Technical assessment and advice to track execution leads for impacts to signalling infrastructure when renewals activities occur (plain line renewal, destressing, ballast renewals etc).
  • Interface and communication with BHP signals and communications maintenance personnel of impacts or changes to the signalling system.
  • Permit reviews and applications, to BHP maintenance staff, to conduct activities on a live network.
  • Identification and escalation of any issues identified to the track renewals project execution lead.
  • Review work execution with team members, identify gaps and implement corrective actions to improve performance.

Role Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and sustain a strong safety and collaborative culture in the rail renewals team.
  • Hold or obtain Non-Statutory supervisor title
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, and environment within Rail.
  • Supervise and manage the safe execution of track renewals work banks.
  • Developing and implementing track renewals methodologies in accordance with procedures and industry best practice and standards.
  • Provide scoping and methodology of execution in work packs to contracting teams for execution renewal work banks.
  • Supervision of contractor and sub-contractor groups during execution of works to ensure all technical and quality standards are achieved safely. Maintaining accurate records of the various contractor's personnel and equipment on site to enable accurate reports.
  • Perform site safety functions including field leadership schedules are in place and completed, reviewing, and signing Task Based Risk Assessments (JHA), participating in on-site safety meetings and actioning findings identified through safety audits in a timely manner.
  • Single point of accountability at worksites under your supervision including management of events (hazards, near miss or actuals).
  • Prompt completion of supporting and reporting documentation and 1SAP work management.
  • Confirm works are constructed to contractual requirements and timelines including adherence to RFQ/SOW, authorising of ITPs and finalising punch-list activities during construction and prioritise required works with the team.
  • Prepare permits and communication packages including (permit to work, General Alerts, Traffic Control Plans, excavation permits)
  • Contributing to Continuous Improvement in Rail Renewals, conducting routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure the integrity and reliability of signalling infrastructure.
  • Strong commitment to Field Leadership and on-site verifications of safety critical controls.
  • Contribute to the development of work methods, construction methodology and rolling short term construction programs.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A Grade Electrical License.
  • Certificate IV in Rail Signalling (desired).
  • Other Rail Signalling qualifications or competencies (IRSE or other)
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical, signalling and communications design and, provide feedback on design constructability and implementation.
  • Supervisor Training or ability to complete.
  • 5 years of industry experience in electrical trade and construction.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a similar signalling and communications role.
  • Strong safety leadership and risk management skills.
  • Current drivers licence and willingness to travel to different work sites as required.
  • Process driven with the ability to identify issues and coordinate problem solving.
  • Ability to work autonomously to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, team building skills and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Experience in 1SAP Work Management (desirable).
  • Experience in using Microsoft suite (Excel, Powerpoint, Word).
  • An energetic and enthusiastic approach to work, with a drive to develop and learn.
  • Ability to problem solve and react to unplanned situations in a controlled manner.
  • A teamwork mentality to achieve results.
