Job Description

Purchasing Officer

Overview

Company Description: Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

Job Description: We are seeking a Purchasing Officer to join our Brisbane based Supply Chain team, working in close partnership with site stakeholders. As we evolve our Supply Chain to be more agile, sustainable and purpose‑driven, our teams play a critical role in enabling safe operations, innovation and a positive impact in the communities where we operate. Reporting to the Purchasing and Repairs Specialist, you’ll be responsible for the end-to-end transactional execution of purchase requisitions requests to purchase orders for your designated site portfolio. You will play a key role in ensuring goods and services are procured efficiently, accurately and in line with Supply Chain guidelines.

Working alongside a supportive team of Purchasing Officers, you will:

  • Analyse purchase requisitions requests for goods and services against Supply Chain guidelines
  • Convert approved requisitions into accurate purchase orders
  • Work closely with suppliers to confirm orders and manage any changes e.g. part numbers, delivery dates, pricing updates
  • Extract catalogued material information from PiLog, set up and maintain purchasing information records in SAP and ensure data accuracy for repeat use
  • Monitor delivery performance for goods and expedite overdue purchase orders
  • Manage cancellation of outstanding orders when site requirements change, ensuring system and supplier alignment
  • Support basic sourcing activity for purchase requisitions where a vendor has not already been selected.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with SAP in a purchasing or transactional procurement environment
  • Solid understanding of procurement processes, purchase order management and supplier interaction
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow compliance requirements
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce or related discipline preferred.
