Glencore's McArthur River Mine (MRM) is a world-class zinc-lead mine with a strong future. Located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, approximately 900 km southeast of Darwin and 64 km from Borroloola, MRM operates a large-scale open-cut mine producing zinc, lead and silver.

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer (Mechanical) to join our Projects team. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong mechanical engineer to manage and deliver projects across a complex mining operation.

Working on a FIFO 8 days on / 6 days off roster, you will play a key role in delivering safe, reliable and cost-effective mechanical projects from concept through to completion.

About the Role

You will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required technical standards.

The role will provide exposure to a diverse range of mining infrastructure, fixed plant, mobile equipment interfaces, material handling systems and site facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Project Managers from concept and design and planning through to construction, commissioning and handover.
  • Support project scopes, schedules, cost estimates and budgets.
  • Support projects to comply with relevant Australian Standards, legislation and site requirements.
  • Provide technical engineering support throughout project execution.
  • Support engineering consultants, contractors and suppliers to ensure project deliverables are achieved.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, quality and schedule performance.
  • Identify and manage project risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to ensure project outcomes meet operational requirements.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation, drawings, specifications and project records are maintained.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture in line with Glencore values.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in project engineering within the mining, heavy industry, processing or resources sector.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting the delivery of mechanical projects from concept through to completion.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, project management and construction practices.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Standards, engineering practices and workplace health and safety requirements.
  • Experience with project scheduling, budgeting, cost control and reporting.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a remote mining environment.
