The opportunity
The Project Engineer will work as part of the Power Projects team in Melbourne managing the delivery of substation projects.
You will have the management and responsibility for a project from site setup to completion including: - safety, scope definition, design, budget, delivery strategy, risk management, client relationships, supervisors and site labour, subcontractors, materials and plant, job estimates, variation management and costing resolutions, industrial relations and client relationships and collaboration to achieve on-site contract performance. Assist program manager with resourcing, bids, training and day to day activities.
What you’ll do
- Manage and take full responsibility of the project from site set up to final handover assisting the Project Manager and Commissioning Engineer for the duration of the project.
- Provide onsite direction for project delivery and compliance with quality requirements including performance requirements, risk management, and documentation to ensure that the project is delivered to the required agreed quality.
- Manage all financial aspects of the project to ensure that project margins are maintained using the Downer systems, including reporting on a monthly basis.
- Provide information & feedback to all stake holders throughout the process including designers, client operations staff, project co-coordinators, specialist OHS, Quality, Community Relations and Environment management staff. Identify any variations to documented scope and the cost and time impact of the project
- Ensure that all procurement activities are managed in accordance with contract terms and conditions including management of cash flow, commercial conditions, payment terms, securities and set off terms.
- Undertake routine (e.g. fortnightly) meetings with client plant teams or equivalents including minutes and escalation of unresolved items to the Project Manager.
- Ensure all completion documentation is prepared and provide to the client at or prior to hand over.
- Co-ordinate with design, commercial and other groups for allocation of resources to deliver projects.
- Contribute to Post implementation reviews (including Close out reports).
- Assist the program manager in delivering the portfolio of works, including resourcing, bid management and other items as required.

What we’re looking for
- Engineering qualification (civil or electrical) with experience working on substation projects
- RPEQ or willingness to obtain.
- Knowledge of construction projects controls principles and practices.
- Experience in estimating software packages favourable (Expert Estimator or Candy) Contract/commercial preparation and negotiation
