Product Owner
Hays Australia
Job Description
Your new company
You’ll be joining a large, complex organisation operating in a high-risk, high‑impact industrial environment. This organisation plays a critical role in Australia’s resources and processing sector and is investing heavily in digital capability to improve operational safety, visibility and decision-making across geographically dispersed sites. With strong executive sponsorship and capital funding in place, this group is moving away from legacy, paper‑based processes and siloed teams toward modern, integrated web applications that genuinely improve how frontline operational teams work day-to-day.
Your new role
As the Product Owner, you will take ownership of a successful, recently launched Insights web application and lead its next phase of development and rollout. The first iteration is already live within a core processing control room and has attracted strong engagement from technically rigorous operational stakeholders — an uncommon achievement in this environment. Your focus will be on maintaining momentum: shaping and refining the product roadmap, capturing and prioritising requirements, and ensuring governance and documentation are fit for scale. You will work closely with data engineers and software developers (React front end, .NET back end) while partnering with operations, asset and processing teams to ensure solutions are practical, respected and adopted.
This role is about herding stakeholders, turning complex operational processes into clear digital workflows, and continuously asking, “How does this make someone’s job safer or easier?” The solution tracks and visualises up to 100 parameters in real time, captures events and trigger conditions, and is being expanded across additional processing areas and sites. It’s a delivery‑focused Product Owner role — not a technical lead position — with plenty of autonomy and visibility.
What you'll need to succeed
Whilst industry experience in resources and mining is not required, you will need the following:
- Proven experience as a Product Owner delivering software or digital products in complex environments
- A technology background with strong exposure to software delivery (without needing to have been a developer)
- The ability to translate operational processes into clear user stories, documentation and prioritised backlogs
- Confidence engaging with direct, highly skilled operational stakeholders who value substance over buzzwords
- Natural curiosity, genuine care for outcomes, and a willingness to get into detail
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trust across distributed teams
- Experience working with development teams using modern web technologies is highly regarded.
What you'll get in return
- A long-term contract until January 2027 on a well‑funded, business‑critical program
- The opportunity to own and shape a product with real operational impact and high visibility
- A highly supportive, pragmatic leader who values effort, learning and accountability over perfection.
- Respectful team culture with strong work–life balance
- The chance to work on meaningful problems where safety, people and technology intersect.
- Hybrid working arrangement
