The Opportunity

As a Privacy Officer, you will establish, implement and maintain MinRes’ privacy framework to ensure compliance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and other applicable privacy legislation.

Acting as the central point of accountability for privacy governance, you will advise on privacy risk management, oversee compliance across the MinRes Group and ensure personal information is collected, stored and used in accordance with legislative requirements and organisational policy.

Reporting to the Director Governance & Compliance, you will partner with business units, Legal, IT and senior executives to embed strong privacy practices across all functions and foster a culture of privacy awareness and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and maintain MinRes’ privacy framework, policies, and governance structures; ensure policies are current, relevant and accessible
  • Lead personal information mapping across all business units, maintain registers of systems holding personal and sensitive information, and oversee data governance practices
  • Review and approve Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) for projects handling sensitive information, manage standardised templates, and maintain the central PIA register
  • Establish and enforce guidelines for the retention, archival, and secure disposal of personal information in collaboration with IT and Records Management
  • Monitor compliance with privacy requirements, conduct audits and assessments, and align with the broader GRC system to identify gaps and improvement opportunities
  • Oversee the investigation and management of privacy incidents and breaches, ensure compliance with the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme, and maintain incident registers
  • Manage privacy obligations in third‑party contracts and monitor supplier or service provider adherence to privacy requirements
  • Act as primary contact for privacy regulators (including the OAIC), prepare regular reports for the Audit & Risk Committee, and deliver privacy training and awareness programs — including induction, refresher, and targeted training for high‑risk areas such as Health Services, HR and Child Care

What is required

  • Tertiary qualification in Law, Business, Governance, Information Management, or related discipline
  • Postgraduate qualification or professional privacy certification (e.g. CIPM, CIPP/A, IAPP) highly regarded
  • Strong knowledge of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), Australian Privacy Principles, and the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme
  • Established experience in privacy, compliance or governance roles, preferably in complex, multi site organisations
  • Proven experience developing and implementing privacy frameworks, conducting Privacy Impact Assessments, and managing personal information mapping exercises
  • Demonstrated track record in managing privacy incidents, engaging with regulators, and working with GRC systems and privacy management tools
  • Industry experience in ASX listed or similarly regulated environments; exposure to health related or other sensitive personal information advantageous
  • High integrity with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially; strategic thinker capable of translating regulatory requirements into practical business solutions
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a proactive, collaborative and adaptable approach in a fast paced environment
