Work Location: Perth Office – Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
Fortescue is seeking a highly motivated Principal Mining Engineer – Mine Planning to join our Perth-based Mines Operations Planning team.
Reporting to the Manager Mines Operations Planning Perth, this role is responsible for leading mine planning optimisation, governance, analytics and transformation initiatives across operational planning horizons from 2-Year to Daily planning. The role will support the uplift of planning processes, systems and standards while enabling future-focused mining capabilities including electrification, automation and AI-enabled planning.
This position requires strong technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and operational planning expertise to drive continuous improvement and support integrated operational decision making across Fortescue’s mining operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mine planning studies, optimisation projects and operational improvement initiatives across operational planning horizons.
- Deliver scenario modelling, operational trade-off assessments and risk analysis to support decision making.
- Develop and maintain mine planning standards, procedures and governance frameworks.
- Support implementation of advanced planning systems, automation and analytics tools.
- Drive data-driven decision making through KPI analysis and mine plan performance reviews.
- Support integration of electrification and decarbonisation requirements into mine planning workflows.
- Collaborate with site operations, technical services and systems teams to improve planning consistency and capability.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree qualified Mining Engineer or similar discipline.
- Strong experience in open pit mine planning and mining operations.
- Proven capability in operational optimisation, studies and planning improvement initiatives.
- Experience with mine planning software such as Alastri, Vulcan or similar.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication capability.
- Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and technical leadership experience.
- Exposure to operational analytics, automation or electrification initiatives will be highly regarded.
