Your new company

Our client is a growing Australian resources organisation with established mining operations and exploration projects across Queensland’s Bowen and Surat Basins. With a strong focus on safety, operational excellence and continuous improvement, they are seeking an experienced Principal Mining Engineer to join their technical team and contribute to the ongoing success of their operations.

Your new role

Reporting directly to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will play an integral role in the short to medium-term success of the operation. As a technical expert in scheduling and mine reserves, you will work closely with operational, technical and contractor teams to ensure effective planning integration and alignment with long-term strategy.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, audit and govern the site’s reserve database for excavation and dumps
  • Develop, integrate and govern technical mine planning outputs between the principal and major contractor
  • Manage technical deliverables and integration of contractor planning outputs
  • Run short to medium-term mine planning and scheduling scenarios
  • Optimise haulage strategies for advancing strips
  • Develop and maintain scheduling cost models to support margin ranking and option analysis
  • Identify and mitigate planning risks to minimise production disruption
  • Ensure short-term mine plans align with the long-term mining strategy
  • Collaborate closely with site operations, technical teams and corporate long-term planning functions

What you'll need to succeed

  • Bachelor of Engineering in Mining, Civil or an equivalent qualification
  • Strong capability using Spry and Deswik CAD
  • Demonstrated experience within large open-pit mining operations
  • Strong understanding of the key value drivers within large-scale mining operations
  • Experience in mine scheduling, reserves and technical mine planning
  • A strong commitment to safety, continuous improvement and process optimisation
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively across operational and technical teams
  • Experience working with mining contractors from a technical perspective will be highly regarded
