About our client

GEMCO is a mining and metals company that produce bauxite, aluminium, copper, silver, lead, zinc, nickel and manganese across Australia and Africa. This mine is an open-cut, strip mining operation that produced manganese based on Groote Eylandt.

What you will be doing

Our client is seeking an experienced Port Operators to join our team, supporting safe and efficient port operations for the handling and export of manganese ore. This role is critical to maintaining production targets and ensuring vessel schedules are met through effective operation of port infrastructure and equipment.

Reporting to the Port Supervisor, you will be responsible for the safe operation of both fixed and mobile plant, while contributing to loading, stockpile management, and general port activities.

  • Operate port equipment and infrastructure safely and efficiently.
  • Support vessel loading, stockpile management, and material handling activities.
  • Conduct pre-start inspections and promptly report equipment defects.
  • Monitor operational performance and maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Adhere to all port, maritime, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Assist with housekeeping and minor maintenance activities across the port area.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, maintenance teams, and stakeholders to ensure smooth operations and adherence to shipping schedules.

What you will need

  • Minimum 2 years experience operating loaders (CAT 992 highly regarded).
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Sound computer skills with the ability to complete reports and interpret work instructions.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Current MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card) Essential.
  • Must be able to provide a National Police Clearance
  • Complete a Pre-employment Medical, including a Drug and alcohol screening
