Job Description

The Project

UGL and CPB Contractors have been selected by Transgrid to deliver the ~140km western section of the HumeLink high voltage electricity transmission project. 

HumeLink is a new 500kV transmission project which will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby in regional NSW that will significantly increase the capacity of the electricity network in Australia’s eastern states. HumeLink is one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure projects, with about 365kms of proposed new transmission lines and a range of other new and upgraded infrastructure. 

The HumeLink West scope of works, worth $1.4bn, includes delivery of new 500kV double circuit transmission lines spanning ~140kms from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new Substation at Gugaa, the Interface Point with HumeLink East near Gundagai and a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.

The Role:

We are looking for a plumber/pipelayer with underground service to work on our brand new 500kV substation build in Maragle. NSW. This will be on a FIFO/DIDO 19/9 roster.

Your duties will include:

  • Install, maintain, and repair underground plumbing systems, including:
    • Sewer, stormwater, and potable water pipelines
    • Civil drainage and reticulation systems
  • Perform excavation coordination, trenching, pipe laying, and backfilling activities
  • Install and work with FRP piping systems and components
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Conduct pressure testing and commissioning of pipe systems
  • Ensure all work complies with Australian standards, safety regulations, and project requirements
  • Liaise with site supervisors, engineers, and other trades
  • Identify and troubleshoot faults

About you / Key Requirements:

  • Trade Qualified - Cert III
  • Construction Whitecard
  • Valid Drivers Licence
  • Excavator Licence
  • Any additional tickets advantageous to the role
  • Previous experience working on substation or large construction builds
  • Current First Aid Qualification (desirable)
  • Excellent work ethic
