About Cadia
Our Cadia Valley Operation in New South Wales is situated about 25 kilometers from Orange and 250 kilometers west of Sydney. Cadia produces gold doré bars from a gravity circuit and gold-rich copper concentrates from a flotation circuit. The operation includes the Cadia East Mine which is globally renowned for its use of block caving, a large-scale underground mining method. We acknowledge the Wiradjuri people, traditional custodians of the land surrounding Cadia, and proudly run an Indigenous Buddy Program to enrich the workplace experience our Indigenous employees. About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and technically capable Planning & Scheduling Engineer to join our team. In this newly created role, you will play a key role in the development of tailings deposition strategies, operational schedules and predictive models that support the safe, efficient and sustainable management of our Tailings Storage Facility (TSF).
Working closely with the operations, tailings project, governance and environmental teams, you will use data-driven analysis, forecasting and modelling techniques to optimise deposition performance, inform operational decision-making and support long-term storage planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain short, medium and long-term tailings deposition schedules aligned with production forecasts and operational requirements.
- Build and maintain deposition and storage capacity models, conducting scenario analysis and optimisation studies to support operational planning and future storage requirements.
- Forecast tailings storage capacity, deposition performance and water balance outcomes, and contribute to performance reporting and reviews.
- Partner with mine planning, operations, geotechnical and environmental teams to ensure safe and effective Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) performance.
- Monitor tailings deposition, water management and operational performance to identify risks, opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support risk management activities and ensure compliance with regulatory, governance and company standards.
- Assist with audits, inspections and technical reviews relating to tailings management and TSF governance.
About You
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in planning, scheduling, forecasting and operational modelling within a mining environment. They will have the ability to develop and interpret engineering, operational or capacity models, using data-driven insights to support decision-making and optimise performance. Strong analytical skills, coupled with the ability to analyse complex datasets and translate technical findings into practical operational recommendations, will be essential to success in this role.
You will also bring:
- Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline
- Mining operations experience – essential
- Experience in operational planning, scheduling, forecasting or optimisation within a mining environment.
- Experience in tailings management, deposition planning, or TSF operations - highly regarded
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards (e.g. ANCOLD, GISTM)
- Experience using mine planning, scheduling or modelling software such as Muk3D, Deswik, Vulcan, Datamine, Primavera P6 or similar analytical tools will be highly regarded.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
