About the Project

The $2.3 billion-dollar New Intercity Fleet (NIF) project will involve the design, build and maintenance of 554 train carriages for Transport for NSW. The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) will carry customers from Sydney to the Central Coast, Newcastle, the South Coast, the Blue Mountains and Lithgow.

UGL is responsible for the maintenance and whole‐of‐life asset management of the 554 new carriages once they are added to the NSW TrainLink Fleet.

UGL's maintenance and asset management has it's main base at a new purpose‐built facility in Kangy Angy on NSW’s Central Coast. The facility features multiple roads with a wash plant, wheel lathe and an undercover maintenance area. 

These roles are based at our Mount Victoria site, Blue Mountains.

About the Role

UGL’s Maintenance & Asset Management business is expanding, and we’re seeking experienced Mobile Technicians (Level 7) to join our growing rail maintenance team based at MT Vic, Sydney.

UGL operates from a new purpose-built facility at Kangy Angy on the NSW Central Coast, featuring multiple roads, wash plant, wheel lathe, and undercover maintenance areas. These roles will support maintenance operations across the Sydney network.

This position is offered on a permanent basis, paid under the UGL Kangy Angy NIF Enterprise Agreement, with shift penalties applied.

About the Role

As part of our expanding maintenance team, you will support increased fleet maintenance activity across operational and stabled rolling stock.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting live running trains and preparation for revenue service at Eveleigh
  • Maintaining rolling stock in various storage locations.
  • Performing fault-finding, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities
  • Working across mechanical and/or electrical systems
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards

The role will commence on day shift during training, then transition to a rotating roster, averaging 38 hours per week.

About You

We’re looking for skilled technicians from Mechanical or Electrical trade backgrounds. Applicants with rolling stock experience are encouraged to apply, however non-rolling stock candidates are welcome, with training provided.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Full Australian work rights
  • Australian recognised trade qualification with Certificate of Proficiency
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Forklift and/or overhead crane licence (desirable but not essential)
  • Hands-on approach – not afraid to get your hands dirty
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
  • Strong commitment to safe work practices
  • Focused on quality workmanship and customer service excellence
