About the Business
Cameby Downs is a small open cut thermal coal operation located in the Surat Basin of southern Queensland, between Chinchilla and Miles. Managed by Yancoal, the operation employs approximately 240 personnel and is recognised for its strong culture of teamwork, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Cameby Downs is seeking an experienced, strategic and people-focused Mining Manager to lead our production team through the next phase of operational excellence and cultural growth.
Reporting directly to the Operations Manager/SSE, this critical leadership role is responsible for delivering safe, efficient and value-driven mining outcomes while fostering a high-performance culture and developing future site leaders.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all aspects of coal recovery, mining and delivery to processing, ensuring safe, efficient and cost-effective production.
- Oversee the operational workforce, directly leading our OCE/Supervisors and indirectly influencing approximately 150 personnel.
- Implement clear systems, structures and routines deliver consistent results.
- Champion Yancoal’s values and foster a performance-based, inclusive culture built on engagement, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Partner with other departments to optimise mine planning, resource allocation and operational outcomes.
- Develop, coach and uplift capability across OCE/Supervisors and Emerging Leaders.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated success implementing lasting operational and cultural change.
- Strong leadership presence — capable of engaging teams, setting clear expectations and following through with consistency.
- A practical mindset, with a focus on safety, discipline and delivery.
- Solid financial and business acumen with experience managing budgets and cost control.
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of the workforce.
- Technical proficiency to provide coaching and problem-solving support for production challenges.
- Advanced risk awareness and a proactive safety leadership style.
- SSE qualifications (or eligibility to obtain or working towards) highly desirable.
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline, will be well regarded.
- Extensive knowledge of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and associated regulations.
Qualifications & Certifications
- SSE qualifications (desirable)
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or related discipline (will be well regarded)
- Knowledge of the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 (Qld) and regulations (extensive knowledge advised)
