The Role & Project

MACA is on the hunt for a Mining Engineer - Drill & Blast, to join our mining business at the Gruyere Gold Project on an 8/6 FIFO roster from Perth.

The Gruyere Gold Mine is an open pit operation located within the Yamarna greenstone belt approximately 200 kilometres east of Laverton in Western Australia.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will assist with mine scheduling and planning to meet both client requirements and MACA production rates. You will also provide ongoing development of mine plans, methods, design, materials handling and cost analysis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee drill and blast designs, loading plans, initiation sequences, and QA/QC processes.
  • Conduct field inspections and audits of drilling and charging activities, ensuring compliance with design and safety standards.
  • Monitor blast performance including fragmentation, vibration, muckpile shape, and dig-ability outcomes.
  • Provide on-ground blast execution support including tie-ins, clearance management, and vibration monitoring.
  • Review drilling performance, troubleshoot operational issues, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise closely with Mine Planning, Survey, Operations, and Blast Crews to coordinate activities and optimise outcomes.
  • Prepare daily reports, reconciliations, compliance documentation, and post-blast reviews.

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hard rock mining drill and blast role preferred.
  • Proficiency in blast design using Vulcan and ShotPlus.
  • Working knowledge of BlastLogic systems.
  • Strong understanding of open pit drill and blast operations.
  • Experience with QA/QC processes and production reporting systems.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Commitment to safety leadership and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced mining environment.
