About the Company

Dawson Mine is a large, dynamic open-cut steelmaking coal mine located near Moura, comprising two operating pits – Central and South. It commenced operations in 1961 and is one of the oldest coal mining operations in Central Queensland with no signs of slowing down. It was the first mine in Australia to export coal to Japan in 1961 and the first to introduce draglines into its operation in 1963.

About the Role

As the Mining Engineer, you will report to the Technical Services Superintendent and will be responsible for delivering best practice mining engineering services and support operations. Our Mining Engineers are specialists in the development and implementation of short-term planning mining strategies and mine plans incorporating Truck and Excavator design. You will leverage your experience of the coal mining process as well as your knowledge in mine design software to deliver achievable and efficient mine plans. With the support of the planning team, you will actively engage with the production team to communicate mine plans and schedules to ensure that the production processes are optimised to continuously increase the operational efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

• A tertiary qualified Mining Engineer with at least 2 years post graduate experience gained in an open cut environment.
• Short term design, planning and/or scheduling within an open cut operation (desirable)
• Truck & Excavator dig, dump and infrastructure design experience (desirable)
• Open cut coal experience highly desirable (desirable)
• Experience with daily, weekly and monthly reporting routines and compliance to plan monitoring (desirable)
• Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes (desirable)
• Track record in driving continuous improvement (desirable)
• Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental standards (desirable)
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (desirable)
• DESWIK exposure highly desirable (desirable)
• Proficiency in SPRY, Vulcan, Minescape, MINEX, or similar mine planning software will be highly regarded (desirable)
• Exposure to mRoc (Argus), Modular Mining Provision or similar high precision GPS guidance systems highly desirable (desirable)
