Located 15 kilometres south-west of Singleton in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, MTW relies on both dragline and load haul systems for their continuous operations. The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
You will be a part of our Technical Services team who are responsible for short, medium and long term mine planning, drill and blast engineering, pit geology and survey. Our planning scope and close working relationships with Mine Operations allows us to support our people to develop their skills and reach their potential. The Mining Engineer position is within the Short-Term Planning team and is responsible for delivering quality engineering outputs through designing, monitoring and communicating effective mine designs and schedules.
Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer and working a Monday – Friday roster, you will be part of a successful team that enjoy what they do and value each other’s contributions. This role requires strong engagement with key stakeholders; primarily mining operations, as well as:
- Direct involvement in the development of daily, weekly and monthly plans.
- Design and scheduling for draglines, rope shovels, hydraulic excavators and haul fleet.
- Ensure compliance to legislative requirements and site standards.

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes:
Essential Criteria:
- A Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related engineering discipline;
- Previous experience in mine planning within an Open Cut Coal Mining environment.
- Experience with CAD design software packages such as Deswik, shot plus, or Vulcan;
- An eye for detail and an ability to develop practical and achievable mine designs and schedules;
- Strong communication and time management skills;
- Ability to manage stakeholders at all levels;
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills;
- NSW driver’s license.
Desirable criteria:
- Experience with Deswik design software for open cut mine design.
