About the Company
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in Northwest Queensland and Western Australia.
About the Role
As a Mine Trades Technician – Mechanical, you will support the safe and reliable operation of underground coal mining equipment through planned and breakdown maintenance activities. Working closely with experienced tradespeople, you will build strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills while contributing to installations, change‑outs and rebuilds of mechanical equipment. The role requires a strong safety focus, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying equipment defects and improvement opportunities, all while accurately completing maintenance documentation and participating in site safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and breakdown maintenance on underground coal mining equipment, including conveyors, pumps, diesel equipment and fixed plant
- Work alongside experienced tradespeople to develop strog fault‑finding and diagnostic capability
- Assist with mechanical installations, change‑outs and rebuilds in an underground environment
- Interpret maintenance instructions, SAP work orders, drawings and OEM manuals
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with site safety, statutory and environmental requirements
- Proactively identify equipment defects and improvement opportunities
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation and defect reports
- Participate in toolbox talks, pre‑starts and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications & Certifications
- Certificate III in Engineering: Mechanical or equivalent
- Current Standard 11 (Surface & Underground)
- Proven mechanical maintenance experience within an underground coal mine
- Experience delivering best practice mechanical maintenance
- Strong safety awareness and commitment to working according to site standards
- Eagerness to learn, develop technical skills and progress within an underground coal environment
