Gold Fields is a globally diversified gold producer with nine operating mines in Australia, South Africa, Ghana, Peru, Canada and Chile.

Gold Fields' mining assets in the Australia region (GFA) include St Ives, Agnew and Granny Smith and Gruyere gold mines.

 Located close to Kambalda, our St Ives process plant treats approximately 4.5 million tonnes per annum from a mix of open pit and underground ore sources. The Process Plant comprises single stage crushing and grinding, Knelson concentrators and in line leach reactor, followed by Leach and Carousel Carbon in Pulp Circuit.

As a result of an internal promotion, we are now seeking a Plant Metallurgist to join our St Ives Processing Team.

Role Details:
Reporting to the Superintendent: Metallurgy, you will be responsible for providing technical direction and metallurgical support to personnel to ensure the processing plant operates safely in compliance with company and statutory requirements and within agreed parameters of throughput, recovery and cost performance.

This role can be offered as residential in Kambalda or Kalgoorlie OR Fly in Fly out from Perth on 8 days on 6 days off roster. Bus transportation is offered to and from site for residential candidates and relocation assistance can be offered to the successful candidate if required.

About the role:

  • Contribute to achieving budgeted production performance, including tonnes treated, gold produced and plant recovery.
  • Ensure the treatment plant is operated in accordance with task instructions and operational parameters.
  • Effectively plan, manage and monitor activities whilst maintaining statutory compliance.
  • Utilise assets to maximise return, including the development and application of new procedures, processes, and technology.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement by analysing data and identifying opportunities for improvements to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of operational performance.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to the Process Supervisors, Process Operators, Graduate Metallurgists and Metallurgical Assistants and deliver ongoing technical support to the broader Processing Department.
  • Support with ICMI cyanide code compliance.
  • Identify, correct and/or report safety and environmental hazards to mitigate risk and reduce the occurrence of incidents and/or injury.
  • Consider the financial impact of decisions and actions, proactively supporting cost management.
  • Build strong, productive interpersonal relationships within the Processing Department, other areas of the business.

About you:

  • A recognised tertiary degree in Metallurgy or relevant discipline.
  • Sound knowledge of process technologies and equipment.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within a mineral processing plant.
  • Exposure to implementation and maintenance of ICMI cyanide code will be highly regarded.
  • Valid Manual Driver’s Licence.
