About the role
We are looking for a qualified Mechanical Tradesperson with experience working as a Fitter Turner to join our Main Workshop at New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter.
The Main Workshop is primarily accountable for providing maintenance and repair work within the machine and fabrication shops to support the wider NZAS site. The Workshop team includes a Supervisor, Repairable Spares Officer, Mechanical & Electrical Tradespersons and Apprentices.
Based at Tiwai, Invercargill and reporting to the Superintendent or Supervisor, this role offers an experienced Tradesperson the opportunity to join a close‑knit, high‑performing team, carrying out planned and breakdown maintenance and diagnostics across a wide range of equipment.
We require you to possess a high degree of flexibility and strong problem-solving skills to identify and conduct planned and unplanned repair and diagnostic work within production time constraints on a wide variety of equipment.
Tasks will include:
- Planned and reactive infrastructure maintenance
- Contractor supervision for Mechanical project work
- Apprentice mentoring
- Positive, caring attitude to fit into our team environment
About you
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- Registered NZ Mechanical trade with a current practicing licence and previous industrial experience is highly regarded.
- Ability to mentor apprentices with care and enthusiasm.
- Current New Zealand or Australian Drivers Licence.
