Our Opportunity
Work Location: Perth based with international scope. Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday.
The Manager, Governance and Compliance is responsible for leading and maintaining Fortescue’s global business integrity compliance programs during a 15-month maternity leave cover.
Reporting to the Company Secretary, this role ensures the effective design, implementation and oversight of key compliance frameworks, supporting ethical business conduct and adherence to applicable laws, regulations and internal standards across all jurisdictions in which Fortescue operates.
The successful candidate will be a pragmatic and credible compliance leader who can quickly step into a global role, maintain momentum across established programs and provide steady leadership and trusted advice.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership and Oversight
- Lead the day-to-day management of Fortescue’s global business integrity compliance programs, including:
- Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC)
- Gifts and Entertainment
- Conflicts of Interest
- Sanctions and Trade Controls
- Whistleblower.
- Ensure programs are risk-based and aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Maintain program governance frameworks, policies and standards.
Risk Management and Assurance
- Oversee compliance risk assessments across global operations.
- Monitor and report on key compliance risks, trends and control effectiveness.
- Support internal audits, investigations and external reviews as required.
- Ensure appropriate remediation actions are identified, tracked and completed.
Advisory and Stakeholder Engagement
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and global stakeholders on compliance matters.
- Provide pragmatic, risk-based guidance on business integrity issues.
- Partner with key corporate and operational teams to embed compliance into business processes.
- Support Board and Committee reporting.
Training, Culture and Awareness
- Drive compliance awareness and training initiatives across a global workforce.
- Promote a strong ethical culture aligned with Fortescue’s values.
- Support and enhance speak-up culture and whistleblower protections.
Investigations and Incident Management
- Oversee intake and triage of compliance concerns and whistleblower reports.
- Coordinate or support investigations into alleged misconduct.
- Ensure consistent, fair and timely handling of issues in line with policy and legal requirements.
Global Team Leadership
- Lead and coordinate a geographically dispersed compliance team.
- Provide coaching, direction and prioritisation to ensure effective delivery.
- Maintain continuity and stability of the function.
Qualifications and Experience
- 10+ years’ experience managing business integrity compliance programs.
- 10+ years’ experience leading teams across multiple jurisdictions.
- Tertiary qualification in law, business, risk or related discipline.
- Company secretarial, ASIC, ASX listing rules compliance experience (desired but not a necessity)
