About the role

We are seeking a Manager Engineering and Asset Management to lead the integration of asset management and engineering across Rio Tinto Aluminium’s Pacific Operations.

This role is ideal for a thoughtful, people‑centered leader who is passionate about asset performance, engineering excellence and building capable, engaged teams. You will work closely with site‑based and central stakeholders, creating strong partnerships to enable safe, reliable and sustainable asset performance.

Reporting to the General Manager Bauxite and Alumina, you will be accountable for implementing Rio Tinto’s Asset Management strategy while supporting leaders and teams through change, capability uplift and continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Be a valued member of the Bauxite and Alumina leadership team contributing to strategic direction for Asset Management
  • Provide leadership over engineering standards, governance and assurance, including ownership of the Asset Integrity Program for the Pacific Operations
  • Lead long‑term asset planning and fleet delivery for the bauxite mining operations
  • Guide the implementation of the asset management strategy, including foundational systems and processes such as:

    • Work and shutdown management
    • Defect elimination and equipment failure investigations
    • Asset master data and systems
    • Capability development, training and knowledge sharing
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with leaders and stakeholders, providing coaching and guidance to help develop a high‑performance, inclusive culture

What you’ll bring

We are looking for someone who brings:

  • A strong commitment to health, safety and wellbeing, for yourself and others
  • A degree in engineering or a related discipline, with relevant professional experience
  • A genuine interest in asset management, engineering and continuous improvement, with experience leading change through people, systems and collaboration
  • Experience leading operational or technical teams in an asset‑intensive environment
  • Experience working with geographically dispersed teams is welcomed but not essential
  • Well‑developed analytical and problem‑solving skills, with an appreciation for data‑informed decision making
  • The ability to work effectively in a matrix environment, partnering with leaders across functions to deliver shared outcomes
