Fortescue is building the next wave of innovation fusing our deep operational capability with cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence (AI). This Manager/Senior Manager role leads the AI strategy and product delivery for green energy and power. This role works closely with the Energy Operations teams within Fortescue's Hive and decarbonisation project teams build, renewable generation, transmission and storage.
The Maner/Senior Manager AI - Green Energy and Power will set the product strategy and delivery for AI and software that supports safe, reliable, dispatchable renewable power across Fortescue's mining operations. The work will support the existing operations, our transition period and the ultimate Pilbara Green Grid - targeting 1.2GW solar, more than 600MW wind, 4-5GWh battery storage and more than 620km of high-voltage transmission to underpin Real Zero mining. They are accountable for value delivery, business performance and adoption, and will lead technology products from idea through deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and deliver the long-term product strategy and roadmap for AI and software across green energy and power, spanning current grid and generation operations through to the future Pilbara Green Grid and Real Zero operating model
- Partner with Energy Operations, decarbonisation project teams, Integrated Technology, site operations, control systems, project delivery and senior leaders to align priorities for AI to support the reliable powering, and decarbonisation of our Pilbara operations
- Translate energy operations, renewable generation, battery storage, transmission and electrified mining constraints and opportunities into actionable product strategies and operational workflows
- Lead high-impact cross-functional technology delivery teams to deliver decision-support, optimisation, monitoring and automation products from concept through deployment and continuous improvement
- Ensure products are scalable, supportable and integrated into core energy systems and datasets (e.g., grid operations platforms, generation and storage systems, SCADA/control systems, telemetry and enterprise data platforms), including data quality, cyber-safe operation and lifecycle support
- Hire, develop and lead high-performing AI product teams, while collaborating with other domain leads and Integrated Technology to shape product practice, standards and operating rhythms.
Qualifications and Experience
- Technology delivery: 5+ years delivering software, analytics, optimisation, digital or AI-enabled products into real operational or business workflows
- Energy domain exposure: practical understanding of energy, power, utilities, industrial operations or similar high-reliability environments, with enough operational context to work credibly with grid and generation teams
- Product leadership: able to translate constraints, user needs, data foundations and business value into clear product strategies, roadmaps and delivery priorities
- Leadership ability: led senior specialists or large cross-functional teams, aligned senior executives and delivered technology-enabled change with broad business impact
- Ability to connect day-to-day power operations with decarbonisation project delivery, renewable energy integration, electrified mining operations, cost, safety and Real Zero outcomes
- Deeper experience in grid or generation operations, transmission, renewable generation, battery storage, dispatch, telemetry, SCADA/control systems or asset systems
- Familiarity with AI, advanced analytics and modern product practices (e.g., optimisation, forecasting, machine learning, Agile, OKRs, design thinking, DevOps)
- Commercial acumen to quantify energy trade-offs and ROI across reliability, renewable penetration, cost, emissions reduction and operational performance
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in electrical engineering, power systems, energy, software, data, technology or equivalent senior technical, commercial or leadership experience.
