Lead SMP Designer – Process Plant / Minerals

About the Opportunity Our end client is a well-regarded engineering group delivering design and project solutions across the resources sector. With a strong pipeline of sustaining capital and brownfields work, they offer a collaborative team environment focused on practical, high-quality outcomes.
You’ll be joining a capable design team supporting ongoing plant optimisation, upgrades, and expansion scopes across a diverse portfolio of commodities.

About the Role

An experienced Lead SMP Designer is required to support the Design Manager and coordinate design delivery across multiple brownfields and sustaining capital projects.

Key responsibilities include:

Leading and coordinating a small team of designers/drafters
Managing the delivery of 3D modelling and 2D drafting outputs
Supporting planning, forecasting, and resource allocation with the Design Manager
Contributing to practical design solutions across process plant projects
Working closely with engineers to deliver fit-for-purpose outcomes

About You

10+ years’ experience in SMP design within resources or heavy industry
Strong background in brownfields and sustaining capital projects
Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating small design teams
Exposure to both materials handling and mineral processing environments
Proficient in industry-standard 3D design tools (e.g. Bentley or Autodesk plant design platforms)
Ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced project environment

Highly Regarded

Experience across both Bentley and Autodesk design environments
Additional exposure to piping design
Background from small-to-mid-tier consultancies or EPC-style project environments

Location & Environment

Perth-based role with office collaboration
Working alongside an experienced Design Manager and engineering team
Involvement in a steady pipeline of optimisation and expansion projects
