Your impact
Reporting to the Director, Health, Safety and Environment, in the permanent position of Lead, Environment, you will execute environmental management plans to support regulatory, voluntary and other internal commitments and targets for our remote Tanami mine operations.
As part of our team you will
- Lead and supervise site Environment team in conducting work required to achieve mine compliance with authorizations and other regulatory requirements, voluntary commitments and internal standards
- Monitor environmental conditions at the site level and distribute performance, events, non-compliances internally and externally, regulatory and other partners
- Direct and monitor the implementation of the Environmental Management System and its component Environmental Management Plans, and other environmental requirements as directed
- Execute environmental priorities for the site providing direction to the team
- Direct and/or conduct required follow-up to ensure the implementation of remedial measures as required to address environmental non-compliances or non- conformances
- Supervise and/or conduct environmental audits and compliance monitoring of mine infrastructure and systems
- Prepare and/or supervise the preparation of regulatory data and report submissions
- Provide appropriate technical support to environmental challenges and standards
- Investigate environmental incidents, prepare required documentation, and make recommendations to ensure appropriate preventative and corrective action
- Under the direction of the Director, Health, Safety and Environment review technical documents to ensure completeness and conformance to regulatory requirements.
Prerequisites for your success in the role
- Degree qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline
- Demonstrated mining industry expertise in environmental management, regulatory compliance and risk control
- Solid knowledge of State and Federal environmental standards and regulations
- Proficient in monitoring and reporting environmental conditions
- Proven leadership with the ability to influence across multi-disciplinary site-based teams and stakeholders
- Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia.
Your work environment
Newmont has fully owned and operated the Tanami mine since 2002. The mine operates in the remote Tanami Desert of Australia. The mine and plant are located on Aboriginal freehold land that is owned by the Warlpiri people and managed on their behalf by the Central Desert Aboriginal Lands Trust. Tanami is a fly-in-fly-out operation in one of Australia’s most remote locations. Tanami is 270 km from its closest neighbours, the remote Aboriginal community of Yuendumu.
This permanent position will be based on-site at the Tanami mine located in the remote Northern Territory working on a fly in fly out roster (8:6:8:6:4:3) from Perth, Darwin, Brisbane or Alice Springs. Mine village accommodation will be provided.
Full and unrestricted eligibility for employment in Australia will be essential.
