About the Role
BHP is generating large amounts of data from different sources and envisioning to scale value and impact through delivery of emergent data, AI and agentic solutions. Reporting to the Manager Data Platforms, your task as a Lead Data Platforms is to lead a team in providing expertise in the design, implementation and continuous improvements of BHP’s core Data & AI platforms – in particular focusing in on core data and knowledge capabilities to ingest, engineer, model and contextualise data.
You will lead a team of BHP Platform Engineers/Product Owners and a contingent of operational contractors (onshore and offshore) to deliver a quality service to our customers.
These platforms provide re-usable, scalable, and self-service capabilities enabling project teams and customer groups to leverage data, analytics, and AI to drive business value and decision making.
Through a diverse range of engagements, you will bring your expertise in modern data, knowledge and AI technologies to guide, operate and improve enterprise platforms across a portfolio of products.
About You
- You are a strategic and hands-on leader with a strong drive for continuous learning and adapting to emerging technologies across data and AI platforms.
- You bring deep expertise in modern data and cloud technologies and can translate strategy into scalable platform outcomes.
- You are an excellent communicator who can guide and influence stakeholders across business and technology domains.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in data engineering or data platform engineering roles, with leadership responsibility.
Strong experience with modern cloud-based data platforms including data warehouses, data lakes, integration platforms and analytics tooling. - Experience leading platform portfolios, roadmaps and strategic initiatives.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), Snowflake and modern data ecosystems.
- Experience in source control, CI/CD and DevOps practices.
- Exposure to emergent AI/ML, Agentic and Knowledge Base capabilities (e.g. Vector stores, Semantic Models and Graph databases).
- Experience in creation of platform patterns, standards and engineering best practices.
- Understanding of enterprise data architecture patterns including integration, data mesh, and analytics.
- Experience working within Agile, DevOps and product-based delivery models.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and ability to guide and influence across the organisation.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- Professional certifications in AWS, Microsoft Azure, Snowflake, or other relevant cloud technologies.Experience with one or more of the following technologies:
- Power BI
- Snowflake
- Amazon SageMaker
- Amazon Bedrock
- Collibra
- Microsoft Purview
- Neo4j
- Experience supporting or delivering Data & AI transformation programs within large-scale enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and AI enablement frameworks.
