Work Location: Perth Office - Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people. Ad hoc site travel as required.
Roster: Monday to Friday
This role is a fixed term contract
Summary:
The Laboratory Coordinator – R&D Operations is responsible for the operational leadership, coordination, and performance delivery of laboratory activities within Fortescue’s R&D Operations group. The role is accountable for ensuring laboratory facilities are safe, compliant, operationally ready, and capable of supporting testing, commissioning, and operational activities across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate day-to-day laboratory operations, workflow and testing activities
- Ensure safe, reliable and compliant operation of laboratory facilities and equipment
- Plan and prioritise laboratory workflow to align with operational and project requirements
- Coordinate laboratory resources including personnel, equipment and materials
- Oversee implementation of laboratory safety systems, permits and risk management processes
- Support commissioning, operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and systems
- Develop and maintain training and competency frameworks for laboratory personnel
- Lead laboratory teams and manage workforce planning and labour hire requirements
- Monitor laboratory performance, identify improvement opportunities and drive operational efficiency
- Collaborate with science, engineering, operations and project teams to support testing outcomes
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong experience in laboratory, operational or technical work environments
- Demonstrated experience coordinating teams, workflow and operational activities
- Experience managing safety, compliance and high-risk work environments
- Strong understanding of safe work practices, permits and risk management systems
- Proven leadership and stakeholder engagement capability across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience in planning, scheduling and resource coordination
- Relevant trade qualification or laboratory qualification equivalent to Certificate 3
- Experience in laboratory operations, chemical handling or pilot plant environments is highly regarded
- Knowledge of dangerous goods, chemical handling and regulatory compliance requirements
- Experience with commissioning activities, operational systems or maintenance coordination is desirable
