About the role

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for leading workforce and people-related components supporting the Black Star Open Cut (BSOC) Feasibility Study and execution phases, while also ensuring effective delivery of operational HR priorities across the site. The role serves as the key interface between operational leadership, project stakeholders, and central HR functions to embed workforce planning, organisational design, industrial relations, and mobilisation into project planning and readiness. It requires strong operational and commercial capability to balance immediate operational outcomes with future project needs. The position reports directly to the Project Director – BSOC.

Glencore are currently advertising for a Human Resources Manager for a vacancy that exists at our exciting new Black Star Open Cut operations. This role is based in Brisbane with a requirement to travel to site, working a Monday–Friday roster*.*

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead workforce planning inputs for the BSOC Feasibility Study, including organisational design, labour strategies, and mobilisation planning
  • Develop and align workforce plans with operational requirements, ensuring commercially robust assumptions and readiness for project execution
  • Provide workforce cost modelling, reporting, and insights to support leadership decision-making
  • Identify and manage workforce risks, including labour constraints, skills gaps, industrial relations, and market impacts
  • Partner with leaders to drive workforce productivity, utilisation, and optimisation, including oversight of vacancies, contractors, absenteeism, overtime, and costs
  • Support recruitment delivery and development of critical skills pipelines
  • Act as the key HR interface across operations, project teams, and central HR, providing strategic and operational HR advice
  • Support governance, assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives related to workforce planning and performance

Experience & Skills Required

This role requires significant HR leadership experience within mining, heavy industry, or similarly complex industrial environments, with a strong emphasis on supporting major capital projects or large-scale feasibility studies. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to integrate workforce planning, organisational design, and industrial relations into project delivery frameworks, alongside strong commercial acumen and execution capability. Experience operating across multidisciplinary stakeholder groups and within structured project governance environments is essential.
