About the role
UGL’s Industrial & Resources business is seeking an experienced HSE Lead to support delivery of a multi-year outage program across Queensland power generation sites.
The program commences August 2026 at a power station near Kingaroy, followed by works in Kingaroy and the Rockhampton region across 2027.
This role is embedded within the Project Leadership Team, working closely with the client, who operates as the Principal Contractor, while supporting delivery of UGL’s outage scope, primarily focused on boiler work and associated activities.
You will lead a small HSE team across day and night shift, supporting planning, execution and close-out.
The focus is on enabling safe, effective delivery in high-risk outage environments, ensuring systems are practical and applied in the field.
The role is site-based with LAHA provided when non-local, supporting delivery across a series of outage campaigns, with approximately 8 weeks of execution for each outage, plus mobilisation and demobilisation periods.
You will operate as part of a broader HSE function, with support from a regional HSE Manager to ensure alignment and strengthen delivery outcomes.
Key responsibilities
· Lead and support a small HSE team across day and night shift
· Partner with the client to align systems, expectations and delivery approach
· Lead HSE input into planning, readiness and execution
· Ensure UGL and client risk management and prevention strategies are applied effectively in practice
· Provide hands-on support during execution, including coaching supervisors and leaders
· Lead field leadership activities, including verification of critical controls and structured safety conversations
· Manage incident response, investigation and the delivery of effective outcomes
· Monitor performance against contractual commitments, UGL deliverables and compliance requirements
· Drive continuous learning by embedding lessons and repeatable practices across outages
About you
· Background in power generation, heavy industry or industrial maintenance with proven involvement in shutdowns, turnarounds or outage delivery
· Confidence leading or supporting small teams in operational environments
· Strong understanding of Queensland WHS legislation and regulatory expectations
· Comfortable operating across regulator, stakeholder and project interfaces
· Practical approach aligned to how work is actually performed
