About the Role
Hays is partnering with a mining operator to appoint a Health & Safety Superintendent to lead the practical application of safety systems across a remote site.
This is a hands-on, field-based leadership role requiring visible presence, strong engagement with crews, and consistent reinforcement of critical controls. You will work closely with supervisors, operators and contractors to support safe production outcomes through direct interaction, coaching and practical risk management.
Reporting to the HSE Manager, this role is suited to an experienced Safety Advisor ready to step into a broader leadership position, particularly with strengths in training, mentoring and workforce capability development.
Key Responsibilities

Field Leadership & Engagement

Maintain a strong field presence, engaging regularly with crews and supervisors

Conduct inspections, safety interactions and critical control verifications

Facilitate pre-starts, toolbox talks and site communications
Risk Management & Compliance
- Ensure procedures and controls are consistently applied in daily operations
- Support hazard identification, risk assessments and safe work practices
- Monitor high-risk activities including heights, confined space, isolations and mobile equipment
- Verify compliance with site standards and legislation
Training & Capability Development
- Coordinate and support training and VOC processes
- Coach frontline teams to strengthen ownership of safety
- Support onboarding and ongoing contractor alignment
Emergency Response & Incident Management
- Support emergency response capability, including drills and readiness
- Participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
Continuous Improvement
- Identify trends and emerging risks, escalating where required
- Contribute to practical safety improvements
- Maintain accurate safety, training and incident records
About You
- Proven experience in a health & safety role within mining or heavy industry
- Strong understanding of operational hazards and risk controls
- Demonstrated field-based experience in remote/site environments
- Experience in training, mentoring or workforce capability development
- Working knowledge of WHS legislation in mining
- A confident communicator able to influence across all levels
- Organised, self-directed and comfortable leading in the field
Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
- Cert IV in Work Health & Safety (or equivalent)
- Relevant industry experience
- Current manual driver’s licence
- Full Australian work rights
- Ability to work FIFO
Desirable:
- Open cut mining experience
- ERT exposure
- Training & Assessment (TAE) or training delivery experience
- ICAM or similar investigation training
- First Aid
Working Conditions
- Remote, site-based role in a physically active environment
- Outdoor work in varying conditions
- Involvement in emergency response as required
