About the Role

Role context and impact De Beers operates across a diverse global footprint spanning mining, midstream and luxury retail, with wholly owned and joint venture entities of varying scale, maturity and regulatory environment.This role leads the Group Reward function, defining the reward strategy, principles and governance frameworks that ensure consistency, competitiveness and alignment to business strategy, while enabling local flexibility.Reporting to the SVP of Reward, Performance and Culture, the role acts as the senior Group lead on reward, providing expert advice to the CPO and wider Executive team during a period of organisational separation and transformation.The role ensures De Beers has a coherent, commercially robust reward approach across all sectors, capable of attracting, motivating and retaining talent in both industrial and luxury environments.

Your responsibilities

  • Define and lead the Group reward strategy and philosophy, ensuring alignment to business priorities and long-term value creation
  • Establish clear reward principles and non-negotiables, balancing:Global consistencySector-specific competitiveness (mining vs luxury retail)
  • Translate strategy into practical frameworks and policies for HRDs to execute locally
  • Own and maintain Group reward frameworks, including:Base pay and grading structuresShort-term incentive frameworksLong-term incentive and share schemesBenefits and pensions principles
  • Define governance, approval processes and control frameworks
  • Ensure reward practices are auditable, compliant and aligned to risk appetite
  • Separation & TransformationLead reward design and decision-making through organisation separation and transition
  • Ensure continuity and clarity on:Reward structures across entitiesPension arrangements and obligationsShare schemes and LTIPsProvide expert guidance on complex scenarios (transfers, exits, restructuring)
  • Support creation of a standalone, sustainable reward model
  • Executive & Remuneration Committee SupportAct as the primary reward advisor to the CPO, CEO and ExCoSupport Remuneration Committees, including:Design of proposals and production of RemCo papersAdvice on executive reward decisionsEnsure all reward decisions are commercially sound and defensible(Providing senior-level advice to ExCo and RemCo is a core requirement of the role)
  • Commercial & Sector AlignmentEnsure reward approaches are fit for purpose across different business models, including:Operational / mining environmentsCorporate and functional rolesLuxury retail and brand businessesBalance cost control, competitiveness and talent retentionProvide insight on market trends and positioning
  • Group Projects & Continuous ImprovementLead and deliver Group reward initiatives and transformationsPartner with HRDs to implement frameworks effectively across BUsDrive simplification and standardisation where appropriateBuild capability across HR and leadership teams on reward topics
  • Technical Expertise & AdvisoryProvide deep expertise across the full reward spectrum, including:Pensions and retirement frameworksShare plans and LTIPsTax and cross-border reward implicationsExecutive compensation and contractsAct as escalation point for complex or high-risk reward decisions
