Shape Your World
At Alcoa, you will become an essential part of our purpose: to turn raw potential into real progress. The way we see it, every Alcoan is a work-shaper, team-shaper, idea-shaper & world-shaper.
Are you passionate about driving reliability excellence at scale? Do you thrive on turning complex problems into sustainable solutions? Alcoa is seeking a Global Reliability Manager – Problem Solving & Improvement to support the global deployment and assurance/governance of our Threat & Opportunity Management (TOM) pillar—an essential component of our Reliability Management Framework. This is a unique opportunity to influence enterprise-wide reliability performance, uplift global capability, and shape how our organization eliminates defects, prevents failures, and captures opportunities across all regions.
As a leader within Alcoa, you can help fulfill our purpose and realize our vision to reinvent the aluminium industry. Be part of the team that is helping shape a better workplace with a better work-life balance and the equal opportunities that help everyone thrive. You have the power to shape things and individuals to make them better.
About the Role:
Reporting to the Global Mechanical & Reliability Engineering Manager, you will provide global governance, assurance and enablement support for TOM, ensuring consistent application of Defect Elimination (DE), Opportunity Management, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA). You will shape global processes, governance routines, capability uplift, and digital enablement, applying a strong “Walk Before Run” approach to build foundational excellence before scaling maturity.
Your work will directly improve reliability, operational stability, and value delivery across Alcoa’s global operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Global Governance & Enablement:
- Establish and sustain global governance for TOM, ensuring consistent standards, terminology, workflows, and decision logic.
- Develop and maintain TOM templates, minimum requirements, and guidance material.
- Support regional and site reliability teams to embed TOM into daily reliability routines.
Root Cause Analysis & Defect Elimination:
- Define and uphold global assurance expectations for RCA execution.
- Ensure high-quality root cause determination and evidence-based problem solving.
- Lead audit and assurance activities to validate RCA quality and identify capability gaps.
- Enable global lessons learned, replication, and elimination of repeated failures.
Action & Solution Effectiveness:
- Provide governance for Step 4: ensuring root causes translate into effective, sustainable solutions.
- Guide to a broad range of intervention types: engineering redesign, maintenance strategy changes, Condition Monitoring (CM) improvements, training, and more.
- Promote structured improvement methodologies such as A3/8D and Lean Six Sigma concepts.
Digital Tool Deployment:
- Serve as the global business super user for the TOM Digital Tool.
- Support requirements elaboration/refinement, configuration, UAT, pilots, rollout, and adoption.
- Ensure data quality, reporting standards, and system usability across regions.
Portfolio & Value Delivery Assurance:
- Maintain visibility of global TOM performance: backlog, throughput, cycle time, benefits, and verification.
- Support global value tracking for cost avoidance, availability improvements, safety risk reduction, and elimination of repeat failures.
- Ensure sustained outcome verification and accurate closure discipline.
Change Leadership & Capability Uplift:
- Drive change management, training, awareness, and coaching across global teams.
- Support site facilitator development through a train-the-trainer approach.
- Promote disciplined execution, evidence-based decision making, and continuous learning.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical or Reliability preferred).
- Postgraduate studies in Asset Management or Reliability Engineering are beneficial.
Experience:
- 10+ years in reliability/asset management/maintenance engineering roles.
- Demonstrated expertise in Defect Elimination and structured problem solving (RCA).
- Experience in global or multi-site governance, standardization, and capability uplift.
- Experience with digital workflow or reliability tools strongly preferred.
- Mining, refining, or smelting industry background is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Deep understanding of defect elimination and reliability improvement methodologies.
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and change management capabilities.
- Ability to influence across global regions without direct authority.
- Analytical mindset with strong reporting and verification discipline.
- Exceptional communication skills, including executive-level storytelling.
- Ability to balance strategic vision with practical program execution.
What’s on offer?
- Being a global leader in shaping enterprise reliability excellence.
- Influencing systems, capability, and digital tools across multiple regions.
- Joining a company committed to innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence.
- Driving meaningful impact through reduced failures, improved stability, and enhanced safety.
