About PCoE

The Project Centre of Excellence partners with project teams, asset leaders and regional partners across BHP to support the successful development and delivery of projects. Bringing together five specialised capabilities - Project Excellence, Technical Excellence, Governance & Assurance, Data & Systems and Global PMO - to provide the project expertise and global reach that enables BHP to deliver sustainable value.

Through strategic collaboration with internal technical teams, external Engineering Service Providers (ESPs) Designers, and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), we enable efficient, forward-looking technical outcomes and long-term value.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our global PCoE Technical Excellence team for a highly capable and technical engineer. Reporting to the Global Head of Technical Excellence, the Global Principal TE will play a pivotal role in provision of technical expertise from across the globe, strategic collaboration with technical teams (projects and operations), external ESP’s and OEM’s. Staying abreast of industry-leading practices, technological advancements and fostering collaborative technical partnerships to drive strategic outcomes.

In this influential and high-impact role, you will:

  • Drive the strategic technical direction, ensuring alignment with global practices, governance, and business value delivery.
  • Set and hold targeted interactions, to support critical equipment performance standards, selection, and project compliance (scope, schedule, cost).
  • Support the creation and maintenance of technical communities of practice to ensure consistent subject matter expertise is available across the business.
  • Ensure the license to operate is protected through robust technical stewardship, assurance, and verification as required.
  • Co-develop and set minimum standards across engineering disciplines, including:
    • Engineering specifications, practices, and management of change
    • Critical assets and structures (e.g. processing plants, critical equipment, concentrators, port facilities, fixed plant equipment)
  • Support TCO total cost of ownership, asset integrity and end-of-life strategies for operations and projects.

Sets / Endorses / Acts on:

  • Engineering improvement initiatives and technical content of tenders.
  • Engineering design requirements, performance specifications and functional specifications.
  • Engineered equipment improvement initiatives / projects.
  • Global engineering strategic plans and optimisation projects.
  • Serve as the technical authority on OEM and service provide selection, and contract oversight where required.
  • Lead investigations of major technical failures when required.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for guidance on technical, safety in design, and legislative compliance.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Discipline Specific Technical / Postgraduate qualifications in Engineering, Reliability, or Asset Management.
  • Demonstrated experience in engineering, ideally within Oil & Gas, mining or heavy industry.Six Sigma or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proven record of influencing technical and strategic decisions across organisations.
  • Membership of professional engineering bodies or technical committees.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across a matrixed organisation.
  • High technical aptitude, strategic thinking, and critical analysis capabilities.
  • A passion for continuous improvement and excellence, with an outward mindset.
  • Proven success in leading strategic change initiatives and delivering results in complex environments.
  • A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build transparent and trusting relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated strong industry knowledge, coupled with a network of subject matter experts in relevant field of expertise.

    o Industrial Engineering.
    o Technical Assurance.
    o Quality Management.
    o Commercial.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in Equipment / Technical Support supplemented with practical maintenance, commercial or associated mining service business.
  • Location: This role is based at our Chile corporate office in Santiago. You will work Monday to Friday, with site travel required from time to time. We encourage team collaboration, and our corporate office teams are expected to work from the office at least three days per week.
