Company Description:Anglo American AustraliaGrosvenor Mine – an underground steelmaking coal mine produced its first longwall coal in May 2016 and is located in Moranbah, about 190 km south-west of Mackay.We are building the team to deliver the next chapter of Grosvenor Mine. With a planned return to longwall production by Q4 2027, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to a major mine restart and help shape the future of underground mining.Working alongside experienced professionals, you will play a role in implementing leading-edge technology, automation, monitoring systems and operational improvements that will define how the mine operates for years to come. Job Description:Grosvenor MineGrosvenor has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Geologist to join the team on a permanent basis, based in Moranbah, QLD. The Geologist will effectively manage the geological database (i.e., structures, quality, borehole status), inputs into and updates of the site geological model (Minex) and provide timely advice on exploration requirements and highlight any hazards that may impact safety or production to Mine Management and the Geotechnical Engineer.Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will be accountable for:Regular underground longwall and development mapping, auditing, and reporting to management and operations on geological issues.Provide geological inputs into surface and underground drilling operations and reviewing / interpreting borehole data.Provide geological support to the operation to ensure safe and efficient production.Maintain the geological, geotechnical, borehole, coal quality, gas desorption and hydrogeological databases.Geological inputs into the permit to mine documentation including grade plans, fault plans, borehole intersection notices, contour plans and geological hazard plans.Assist with improving the quality of technical services deliverables to ensure that they are fit-for-purpose and are able to bridge the gap between design and practicality in the workplace.Assist with planning exploration, gas compliance drilling, sampling and other geological related studies.Assist the Technical Services team to deliver targets safely, optimally, and in accordance with the annual mine plan. Qualifications:Tertiary qualifications in Geological Sciences or equivalentExperience working at an underground coal mineSpatial design skills and awarenessUnderground mining operations experience (desirable)Experience using AutoCAD and Minex (or similar software packages) desirableA detailed understanding of the coal mining processesA high level of planning and problem-solving abilityWell-developed communication and collaboration skillsA high level of strategic thinking, planning and problem-solving skills will be instrumental in your success in this role.
