About the role

We are looking for a Controller – Fixed Plant to support our Pilbara operations through the safe coordination and monitoring of fixed plant activities from our Perth Operations Centre near Perth Airport.

This is a great opportunity for an operationally focused, safety‑driven individual to work in a 24/7 control room environment on an even time roster, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of a highly integrated mining network.

Reporting to the Supervisor PMO Control and working in a collaborative and fast‑paced control room environment within the PMO Control team, you will be:

  • Coordinating and monitoring fixed plant operations to ensure safe, stable and efficient performance
  • Adhering to Rio Tinto standards, policies and procedures at all times
  • Identifying and managing operational risks, escalating issues where required
  • Collaborating with site‑based teams and other control room disciplines to support production and maintenance activities
  • Using operational systems and real‑time data to identify deviations and support timely decision‑making
  • Supporting the execution of daily and short‑term operational plans
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across safety, reliability and performance

About you

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Experience in operational control, fixed plant or process operations within a mining or industrial environment
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in high‑pressure, time‑critical situations
  • Clear communication and collaboration skills
  • Technical understanding of fixed plant or processing operations
  • Computer literacy and confidence using operational and Microsoft‑based systems

Where you’ll be working

This role is based at the Perth Operations Centre, a state‑of‑the‑art facility that enables real‑time coordination of Rio Tinto Iron Ore’s integrated network of mines, rail and ports across the Pilbara. Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Centre uses advanced visualisation and collaboration tools to optimise mining, maintenance and logistics activities from more than 1,500 kilometres away.
