Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

Roster: 7 Days On / 7 Days Off – FIFO ex Perth or residentially located in Port Hedland

Fortescue is seeking an experienced Fire Systems Mechanical Technician to join our Infrastructure Services team in Port Hedland. This is a hands-on role where your expertise will directly support the safety and reliability of our operational and camp facilities.

In this role, you will deliver safe, high-quality maintenance across site, taking ownership of the inspection, testing, repair and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems, hydrants and pump sets. You’ll be part of a highly skilled team that values safety, accountability and continuous improvement—while working in a dynamic, large-scale mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion safety-first behaviours and continuous improvement practices
  • Perform planned and routine maintenance on fire protection systems
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs to minimise downtime
  • Oversee contractor groups during modular works and major shutdowns
  • Replace and modify fire pipework and sprinkler systems as required
  • Utilise SAP to raise notifications, close work orders, complete time confirmations and apply cause codes

Qualifications and Experience

  • Australian recognised Certificate II in Fire Protection
  • Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience (trade-qualified Mechanical Fitters or Plumbers are encouraged to apply)
  • EAHL qualification highly desirable
  • Experience in fixed plant maintenance including screens, conveyors, sizers, scrubbers, crushers, balance machines and chutes
  • Experience using computer-based maintenance systems (SAP desirable)
  • High-risk work tickets such as EWP, Working at Heights, Rigging, Forklift and Confined Space highly regarded
